Día de Lluvia//Rainy Day
Breakfast this morning was some pancakes, coffee, and a naranjilla smoothie. I am loving the smoothies. I could hear the rain before I left the house, but wow was it coming down. Thankful I brought my rain slicker, less thankful regarding my shoe choice... Thinking about rocking my hiking boots next time I hear the rain in the morning. Once again, I found my stop just fine and was at Sinamune early. I was given three shirts with Sinamune's logo on it and was told which ones to wear which day. T-shirt Mondays (lunes), gray polo Tuesdays and Thursdays (martes y jueves), and blue polo Wednesdays and Fridays (miercoles y viernes). All to be worn with black or blue pants. I'm actually relieved about his since I was not feeling confident with what I had packed as far as appropriate attire.
**I also figured out SINAMUNE is an acronym for Sistema Nacional de Música para Niños Especiales ;)
The day began like yesterday with a performance for tourists and once again I helped the dancers with make up and and costume changes. One of the costumes is a traditional Ecuadorian dress/skirt/hair wrap ensamble. It's beautiful and exciting to learn how to put it together.
Today Rosita made me some coffee and one of the girls brought us bread (pan) to share. A great way to begin the work day.
After the performance and the short recess, I taught an hour and a half class to a group of about 10 students with a few occupational therapists. Rosita was feeling pretty sick and had me teach on my own today. It was a pretty great time. After I taught a short 40 minute class to 4 students with more severe disabilities as I had yesterday. Today was better as I knew what to expect. Looking forward to that class getting better and better.
On my way to Spanish classes I stopped in at the travel agency my host sister works at to purchase my Galapagos tickets. I depart for San Cristóbal, Galápagos in the early morning on March 5th and I am beyond excited.
At this time the rain was coming down even stronger than before. I was going to grab a taxi the 6 ish blocks to class but decided since I was already soaked, why spend the money. Ximena, my instructor went over body parts, clothes, numbers, and how to say things like "this is hers", "that is mine" which is more difficult than one might think because each noun has a gender and that dictates the form of each other word. Anyway, the body parts are especially useful for teaching dance so I was pretty stoked about that.
The bus ride home was another success! I even figured out where to stop without asking someone for help ;) The only downside was since it is rush hour at that time, and buses don't really have max capacity, I stood the whole 45 ish minutes making it even easier to fall right asleep now...
Saludos,
Zoe
